What Goes Where?
When you know what can and what can’t be recycled, recycling is very easy. Basically, all you have to do is to throw recyclables into different recycling bins. When full, empty the bins at the nearest recycling bank in order for them to be recovered, reprocessed and produced into new products/materials.
The easiest way to recycle is to collect recyclables in bins for paper, plastic, metal, etc. - the same you can find at the recycling banks:
Paper Bin
Yes:
- magazines
- newspapers
- paper/cardboard packaging
- brochures
- unwanted mail
- envelopes (including with windows), greeting cards
- card boxes (flattened)
- shredded paper
- office paper
- eggboxes
No:
- napkins
- paper tissues and towels
- any paper that is dirty
- cardboard that is lined with plastic
Plastic Bin
Yes:
- water, drinks and milk bottles
- plastic cups and plates
- containers/bottles holding shampoo, detergent, cleaning agents
- margarine/butter, yogurt and ice cream containers/pots
- bottle tops
- plastic bags
- cling film
- bubble wrap
- food pots
- razor blades
No:
- thin plastic wrappings
- salad bags
- crisp and confectionery wrappings
- CD/DVD cases
- toys
- hard plastic (for example plastic chairs, plastic kitchenware)
Glass Bin
Yes:
- glass jars (without metal lids)
- glass bottles (without metal tops)
No:
- window panels
- mirrors
- Pyrex (glass cookware)
- decorative/ornamental glass products (statues, vases, etc.)
Metal Bin
Yes:
- aluminium drink cans
- aluminium foil
- metal lids and tops
- metal food tins
- anything made of any kind of metal
- aerosols (emptied)
Organic Waste
Yes:
- grass cuttings
- garden prunings
- leaves
- plants - including cut flowers, weeds and small shrubs
- small branches
- food leftovers
No:
- large shrubs, trees, trunks
- soil
- pet droppings
- nappies
- wood
Other waste products/materials can be recycled as well including domestic batteries, electronics, tyres, shoes, clothing, cooking and engine oil, mobile phones and car batteries. These should be sorted as well and dropped off at the nearest recycling centre or designated areas.
Important!
With the exception of organic waste, all waste products/materials that are thrown into recycling bins must be clean. This means that jars, bottles, plastic/metal food containers, etc. should be washed or rinsed before thrown into recycling bin.
